Jaguar has recalled more than 40,000 Land Rover vehicles from the 2010-'15 model years and 2012-'13 Range Rovers due to air bag problems. 

The passenger air bags in 40,551 Land Rover LR2 vehicles and Range Rover Evoque SUVs could be disabled, federal regulators found.

The automaker told National Highway Traffic Safety Administration officials that it was not aware of any accidents or injuries connected with the recall, Edmunds.com reported.

"A component within the Occupant Classification System Electronic Control Unit may fail, resulting in the front seat passenger airbag being totally or partially disabled," the NHTSA described the problem in certain Jaguar vehicles. "In the event of a crash necessitating airbag deployment, the airbag may not deploy or may not deploy properly, increasing the risk of injury to the front seat passenger."

The recall is scheduled to begin on Aug. 30 and will involve updating software in the affected vehicles. Dealerships will provide updates to the Restraint Control Module software free of charge. Owners can reach Land Rover at 1-800-637-6837.

Last October, more than 1,500 diesel Ranger Rover Sport vehicles were called back for repairs in the U.K. for a faulty system that let battery cables get too close to the vehicle's fluid supply pipes and put the vehicle at risk of an engine fire, according to The Telegraph.

Brand officials could not be reached by The Telegraph to say whether or not the recall would affect Jaguar Land Rover vehicles in other markets.
