2015 Ford F-150 Lineup Has More Standard Features, Higher Prices

The new Ford F-150 will come with quite the price hike for the aluminum-body version, which will cost around $3,600 more than its predecessor, the automaker has announced.

Dealerships in the U.S. and Canada began ordering the 2015 models on Monday as Ford aims to keep up the F-150's winning sales streak, Reuters reported.

F-150 pickup trucks have been key for Ford, standing as the best-selling vehicles in North America for 36 years, according to Reuters.

While aluminum is more expensive, Ford says the uptick in price is due to additional features included as standard in all five trim levels.

"We're adding a lot more content," Ford spokesman Mike Levine told the Detroit News. "Especially for the Platinum and King Ranch, we're adding a lot more smart features that add convenience and productivity that these high-end truck customers want."

The 2014 Ford F-150 came in 10 models. For the latest version, Ford will be offering five options: the XL, XLT, Lariat, King Ranch and Platinum.

Pricing for the XL and XLT will increase by $395 to $26,615 and $31,890, respectively, while the more luxurious Lariat model will jump $895 for a $39,880 starting price.

For the top-tier options, the F-150 King Ranch model will increase $3,615 to $49,460, and the Platinum version base price has risen $3,055 to $52,155.

The two base models are expected to make up around 70 percent of F-150 sales, according to Ford spokesman Levine.

Here is a sampling of the new features announced in the F-150 lineup:

1. An eight-inch LCD screen and a rear-view camera as standard in Lariat models

2. LED headlights, taillights, cargo box lights and side-view mirror spotlights in the Platinum and King Ranch versions

3. Information screens and more cab speakers in the XL and XLT

4. Heated and cooled seats and power folding mirrors, also in the Lariat

5. Standard inflatable rear safety belts and multi-contoured seats, only in Platinum trucks
