Comic-Con to Feature Life-Size Darth Vader Hot Wheels Car

If you're a "Star Wars" fan and plan on attending Comic Con this week, you're in for a treat.

Mattel has designed a life-size version of a Darth Vader Hot-Wheels car that comes with features never found on a vehicle before.

"We've been trying to partner with Lucasfilm and Disney on this property for a long time," Doug Wadleigh, Mattel's senior vice-president of global brand marketing for boys and entertainment, according to the Associated Press. "It took us time to get them to understand how Hot Wheels and 'Star Wars' could be married together to create a unique opportunity within the vehicle space. It blows me away to finally see it come to life in such a beautiful form. It's gorgeous."

A full-size version of the Vadermobile will be at Mattel's booth during Comic Con, scheduled to take place at the massive San Diego Convention Center.

The vehicle is able to go up to 80 mph, and the dashboard will resemble the interior of Vader's helmet.

If that wasn't reason enough for you to check out the vehicle, it emits his breathing sounds as well, according to Wadleigh.

Though you can't purchase the life-size version of the Vader car, fans can take a Hot Wheels version home for $40, which comes in a see-through lightsaber display case.

Comic-Con will be the first place ever that fan can see the initial line-up of "Star Wars" Hot Wheels.

The first set is modeled after popular characters like R2-D2, Chewbacca, Yoda, and Han Solo. Vehicles based on Jabba the Hutt, Princess Leia, and newer "Star Wars" characters are being worked on, according to Mattel.

"There's a lot of thought that goes on behind the scenes on how we select what type of car goes with which character," said Bryan Benedict, the designer behind the "Star Wars" autos, according to the Associated Press. "It's not just about what the character looks like but who the character is and their personality traits. The Darth car, and this is reflected in the full-size build, is really a timeless looking car."
