Federal regulators are investigating 500,000 Ford vehicles after five reports of problems with steering control.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration will be examining Ford Crown Victoria and Mercury Grand Marquis and Mercury Marauder vehicles from model years 2004-'07, the Wall Street Journal reported.

According to the investigation notice, the NHTSA is aware of five reports of steering problems, including one incident of a rollover accident and injury.

The incident that resulted in injury involved the steering freezing up when a driver entered a highway entrance ramp, resulting in rollover and injuries, the Associated Press reported.

For the affected vehicles, "an exhaust manifold heat shield could come loose and become lodged in the steering shaft and prevent it from turning," the NHTSA said.

Ford has stated that it will cooperate with the NHTSA for the investigation.

In other news, Chrysler has issued a recall for 895,000 Dodge Durango and Jeep Grand Cherokee SUVs from model years 2011-'14. Dealers will inspect and fix "wiring to the lamp in the visor vanity mirror that could short circuit and lead to a fire," WSJ reported.

The Chrysler recall follows an investigation into the SUVs and five reports of visors that were smoking or caught on fire.
