Daimler AG has released a video offering a sneak peek at what people can expect from the redesigned 2016 Smart Fortwo and Smart Forfour.

The vehicles will debut at the 2014 Paris Auto Show, according to the automaker.

"Other countries will get the all-new Smart first, so it may come as model year 2015 for the other markets. However, we won't get the new Smart until calendar year 2016," Terry Wei, a Smart spokeswoman, said to Edmunds.

Wei said that when the redesigned vehicles arrive in the U.S., they will likely be labeled as 2016 models.

She added that no arrival date for the new vehicles has been set, and pricing will be announced later on in the year.

The highly-anticipated vehicles will debut this October at the 2014 Paris Auto Show. Some German media outlets claim a less formal unveiling will take place on July 16 in Berlin however.

It's clear based on the video that the Smart Fortwo's appearance will look a lot like its predecessor. The Tridion Safety Cell is still a key design element, and the wheels are still located at the corners.

The vehicle is expected to be "about 3, 4 inches wider and maybe 1 or 2 inches longer," according to Smart USA General Manager Mark Webster, who spoke with Edmunds.

The video also confirms that the Smart Fortwo will come with a two-box design.

The Smart's grille has been extended into a broader "smile" and the dashboard is now oval-shaped with round instruments.

Transmission options will most likely be a five-speed manual or optional six-speed, dual-clutch automatic, though nothing has been confirmed yet.

There are no immediate plans to import the larger Smart Forfour into the U.S. This could change soon however.
