Volkswagen Stops Selling 2015 Volkswagen Golf, GTI Hatchbacks

Volkswagen of America has announced that it will stop selling its 2015 Volkswagen Golf and GTI hatchbacks.

A stop-sell was ordered due to the potential for the front stabilizer link fasteners to work loose, the automaker said in a statement on its website.

"We have asked our dealers to immediately stop the sale of affected vehicles," Volkswagen said in a statement regarding the stop-sale. "We will officially notify NHTSA and will be in contact with customers impacted by this issue."

NHTSA oversees all vehicle recalls in the U.S.

Volkswagen dealers are being instructed to replace the front stabilizer links.

All repairs will be made free of charge.

"We have notified NHTSA about a recall for the cars that have already been sold," said Mark Gillies, a Volkswagen spokesman, according to Edmunds.

The automaker said that the defect could affect the ability of the driver to turn the vehicle's steering wheel if the links were to become detached.

The automaker confirmed this week that it expects to recall a total of 2,001 cars in the U.S., according to Gillies.

Approximately 811 vehicles are affected by the stop-sale.

Gillies failed to provide any further information regarding the stop-sale.
