The 2015 Chevrolet Traverse crossover has received the maximum five-star rating for safety after federal crash tests.

Earning five stars in front and side crash tests and four stars in the rollover test, the Traverse in front-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive received top marks from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, Edmunds.com reported.

The crossover has not yet received safety ratings from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. For safety systems, the Traverse has "electronic stability control, antilock brakes, a rearview camera system and a tire-pressure monitoring system," according to Edmunds.

The Traverse LTZ in standard trim also has forward collision alert and lane-departure warning systems. Additionally, the 2015 model year introduces Siri Eyes Free, which is compatible with an iPhone and is intended to minimize driver distraction.

The Chevy crossover competes in its segment with the 2014-'15 Ford Explorer, Honda Pilot, Nissan Pathfinder and Toyota Highlander.

A five-star overall safety rating was also awarded to the 2015 Toyota Highlander, and the 2015 Honda Pilot received a four-star safety rating after crash tests. The 2015 Ford Explorer and Nissan Pathfinder have not yet been rated by the NHTSA.
