Samsung will release a smaller version of its popular Galaxy S5 device later this month in a number of markets around the world.
Samsung's S5 Mini will come with features like a fingerprint sensor, water/dust resistance, Private Mode to protect important files, and a heart rate monitor, according to a company release.
The water resistance and heart rate monitor features makes the S5 Mini a handy device to have while working out, while the fingerprint sensor and Private Mode will help keep your device more secure than previous Galaxy options.
The Galaxy S5 is 5.59 by 2.85 by 0.32 inches, and weighs 5.11 ounces, according to Samsung's website. The mini meanwhile measures in at 5.16 by 2.55 by 0.36 inches and weighs 4.23 ounces.
Instead of Galaxy S5'S 5.1-inch 1080 HD display, the device comes with a 4.5-inch 720p HD display, according to the release.
It also loses the S5'S 2.5-GHz quad-core Snapdragon 801 processor for a 1.4-GHz quad-core processor. The make of the processor is unknown right now, but it will most likely be a Snapdragon 400.
Other specs include: 1.5 GB of RAM with 16 GB of internal storage, 2-megapixel user-facing camera, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi radio, a 2,100mAh battery, and GPS.
Apps and services available for the mini device includes: Samsung's TouchWiz user interface, S Health, Ultra Power Savings Mode, and Kids Mode.
"We always strive to develop devices that appeal to a range of consumer tastes and styles," said Samsung's mobile chief JK Shin, according to the release. "The Galaxy S5 Mini allows consumers to enjoy the iconic design and essential and useful features of the Galaxy S5 through a maximized minimalism approach."
Interested customers can expect the Galaxy S5 Mini to run on Android 4.4.2 KitKat, according to Samsung.
The Galaxy S5 Mini will launch in Russia first later this month, followed by other large markets, according to Samsung. The company failed to say if the S5 Mini will reach the U.S.
AT&T is usually the sole carrier to provide the mini options of Samsung's smartphones, though that could change for the S5.
