General Motors has recalled 194,107 Buick Excelle GT cars in China, which is the American automaker's biggest sales market.

A quality regulator found that high beams in the sedans couldn't be switched off "under extreme circumstances," Bloomberg News reported. The recall comprises vehicles made from Oct. 10, 2009 to July 2, 2012.

GM, which issued the recall after consumer complaints revealed the problem, will inspect the Buicks' high beam light bulbs to be replaced if needed. A regulator examined owner reports to find that being unable to turn off the high beam could cause collisions.

The more than 194,000 cars come from Shanghai GM, which is the Detroit, Mich.-based automaker's manufacturing joint venture in China, according to the website of the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine.

A GM spokeswoman based in China confirmed the recall to Reuters, noting that the announcement is unrelated to GM's recent recalls worldwide.

Only halfway through the year, GM has recalled around 20 million cars in a series of announcements following the recall of 2.6 million small cars with problematic ignition switches connected to at least 13 deaths and 54 crashes.

Earlier this week, the automaker issued a stop sale for 2013 and 2014 Chevrolet Cruze models, which have been linked to defective airbags from Chinese supplier Takata.

Around 33,000 Cruzes, mostly in North America, are likely equipped with the faulty airbag inflators that have been known to explode. The airbags are believed to have been manufactured with propellant that was improperly stored and exposed to moisture. Altogether, some 10.5 million cars have been recalled in connection with Takata airbags.

More than 119,330 Cruzes have been sold this year through May, which is an 18.4 percent increase compared with the first five months of 2013.
