NASA will test a number of new rocket technologies with the launch of a sounding rocket between 4 and 5 a.m. on June 28, according to the space agency.

The test will take place from the Wallops Island Flight Facility in Virginia.

Backup launch days have been scheduled for June 29 through July 2, according to NASA.

The technologies being tested during the launch includes deployment system for forming vapor clouds that help track winds and improvements in telemetry.

NASA's launch will also test flight recorders in order to increase the rates for data collected and transferred during flights.

Vapor clouds could be visible to people on the ground in the mid-Atlantic, according to the space agency.

The vapor releases take place at around 220 seconds after vehicle lift-off between 68 and 86 miles above the Earth.

"The byproducts from burning these metals do not pose a risk to health or the environment given their release in space," NASA said in a statement.
