GM Recall: Around 90,000 Cadillacs Have Transmission Problems

General Motors is recalling 68,887 2013-'14 Cadillac ATS and 21,863 2014 Cadillac CTS sedans for transmission problems as part of a larger recall announced on Monday.

"In certain vehicles with automatic transmissions, the shift cable may not be fully secured to the shifter bracket or transmission bracket," GM said in a statement quoted by Edmunds.com. "If the shift cable comes out of the brackets, the driver may not be able to shift the transmission in or out of gear."

The automaker hasn't received reports of any crashes or injuries related to this particular recall, but the larger set of recalls comprising around 3.4 million vehicles has been linked to eight accidents and six injuries.

GM doesn't yet have specific information for affected customers, spokesman Alan Adler told Edmunds. For the recall, Cadillac dealers will inspect the vehicles to ensure that the shift cable is attached properly. Meantime, concerned owners can contact Cadillac at 1-800-333-4223.

Following a massive small car recall earlier this year, GM has sustained multiple hits with recall after recall. The latest announcement came on Monday, the beleaguered automaker issuing a recall for the Buick Lacrosse from model years 2005-'09; Chevrolet Impala from 2006-'14; Cadillac Deville from 2000-'05; Cadillac DTS from 2004-'11; Buick Lucerne from 2006-'11; Buick Regal LS and RS from 2004-'05; and Chevrolet Monte Carlo from 2006-'08.

Most of the problems in those vehicles were related to ignition switch issues, similar to those previously found in 2.6 million cars such as the Chevrolet Cobalt, The New York Times reported.
