In comparison, Apple's iPad Air has a 7.5 millimeter profile.
Both new Galaxy Tab S devices run on Google's Android 4.4 Kitkat operating system. The devices are also designed to take calls for Samsung smartphones, according to PC World.
Other features include: Bluetooth 4.0 and optional 4G connectivity, dual 8MP and MP cameras, 3GB of RAM, either 16GB or 32GB of internal storage expandable up to 128GB via microSD card.
Samsung's CEO and president of its IT and mobile division said consumers are warming up to the Galaxy Tab devices.
"The tablet is becoming a popular personal viewing device for enjoying content, which makes the quality of the display a critical feature," JK Shin said in a statement. "With the launch of the Galaxy Tab S, Samsung is setting the industry bar higher for the entire mobile industry. It will provide consumers with a visual and entertainment experience that brings colors to life, beautifully packaged in a sleek and ultra-portable mobile device."
Tab S devices are available in titanium bronze and white color options.
The phone manufacturer expects to ship devices out by July 4, according to PC World.
