Pinterest's Guided Search feature is launching for the web version to help desktop users navigate the site's 30 billion pins, Mashable reported. The search bar is rolling out for U.S. users this week and will later be available worldwide.
Debuting for mobile in April, the search bar brings up recommended keywords based on what you type in; for example, entering "home" will bring up "home decorating," "home office" and "homemade gifts."
According to Pinterest CEO Ben Silbermann, the new feature is intended to guide users to related content as well as new content they will like but didn't know to look for, Mashable reported.
"The guides are there to get you where you want to go, but the best part is leaving a little room for serendipity," Hui Xu, head of Pinterest's Discovery Team, said in a company blog post. "Exploring getaway ideas might lead you to a treehouse adventure, a motorcycle trip down the coast, or maybe even something else you didn't know you were looking for."
Pinners have made 750 million boards and pinned more than 30 billion items.
Letting users search within the billions of available pins should help Pinterest with its long-term plan to become monetized. Guided Search will help users navigate products that they want, making it easier for brands to sell items.
