Kindle Update Lets You Easily Switch Between Reading, Listening

Amazon has made its e-book and audiobook services compatible so users no longer have to switch between two apps when going from listening to reading.

Whispersync for Voice service is now integrated into the Kindle app for iOS and Android, VentureBeat reported. Users previously had to switch to the Audible app to listen to an audiobook.

"Integrating professional narration into our Kindle apps means you never have to put down a favorite book," Russ Grandinetti, senior vice president of Amazon Kindle, said in a statement.

According to Amazon, users like to go back and forth between reading a book and listening to an audio recording.

"We continue to hear from a growing number of Whispersync for Voice converts who tell us the innovation has profoundly changed the way they read," Audible founder and CEO Donald Katz said in a statement.

Whispersync factors in the last page in the e-book version of your current book to know where to begin.

"In fact, switching back and forth between reading and listening has become [users'] preferred way of experiencing stories," Katz said. "And the feature has gotten easier and easier to use, as this exciting integration into Kindle apps attests."

Amazon offers around 47,000 Kindle books that work with the Whispersync for Voice service.
