Yahoo Purges Flickr of Facebook, Google Logins

By the end of the month, Yahoo will require all Flickr users to sign in with a Yahoo ID, eliminating the option for Facebook and Google credentials.

The company has been working to scrub its services of Facebook and Google logins, and Flickr is the next phase of the plan, CNET reported.

"Flickr is removing Facebook and Google sign-in," Yahoo said on the Flickr homepage, as reported by CNET. "If you access Flickr through Facebook or Google, please sign in one last time using the buttons below. You will be prompted to create your new Yahoo account."

Users who don't remember their Yahoo ID or don't have one will have to create a new one. The change is part of Yahoo's initiative to force users to access its services through Yahoo IDs.

The shift was announced in early March, according to PCMag.com.

"This new process, which now asks users to sign in with a Yahoo username, will allow us to offer the best personalized experience to everyone," a spokeswoman said at the time.

Yahoo has worked to boost its image and bring in new users under CEO Marissa Mayer's direction, rebooting Flickr in May 2013 and updating its Mail service to deactivate abandoned accounts and offer new email software.
