The 2014 Chrysler Town & Country came short of five stars for safety from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, but the vehicle earned ratings of "good" on all Insurance Institute for Highway Safety crash tests, Edmunds.com reported.

Overall, the minivan received four stars for safety from the NHTSA after earning four stars in the front crash test, five stars in the side crash test and four stars in the rollover crash test.

In standard trim, the model's safety features include "a rear backup camera, side-curtain airbags for all three rows, a driver-side inflatable knee blocker, electronic stability control and traction control," according to Edmunds.

The Town & Country received scores of "good" on all IIHS crash tests. Among the tests was the moderate front overlap crash test, which involves force like a frontal offset crash between two vehicles of the same weight that are both driving about 40 mph.

The minivan competes in its segment with the 2014 Honda Odyssey, Kia Sedona, Nissan Quest and Toyota Sienna, according to Edmunds.

The Chrysler Town & Country has optional safety features that can be added to the standard Touring trim and are included on Touring-L and Limited Models. The features include rain-sensitive windshield wipers and auto high-beam headlamps; rear park assist system; blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-path detection.
