Ford has announced it will debut a new adaptive steering system on select vehicles starting next year.

The system will essentially make it easier for vehicles to maneuver when traveling at low speeds, and more agile at higher speeds.

"This new steering technology can make any vehicle easier to maneuver and more fun to drive," said Raj Nair, Ford group vice president of Global Product Development, in a statement, according to a company release.

Ford has not said which vehicles will receive the system yet in 2015, but it's a safe bet that you can expect to find it in larger vehicles, like SUVs or pickup trucks.

The automaker has also not said whether the steering feature will be an optional or standard system, and whether it will carry a price premium.

Ford's system fits entirely into the steering wheel, which will make it easier to install in a number of vehicles.

"Adaptive Steering changes the ratio between the driver's actions at the steering wheel, the number of turns, and how much the front wheels turn," the automaker said in a statement. "In traditional vehicles, this is a fixed steering ratio. With Ford's new Adaptive Steering, the steering ratio continually changes with vehicle speed, optimizing the steering response in all conditions."

A number of German automakers already offer similar systems like Audi and BMW.

Audi offers its Dynamic Steering system, while BMW offers its Servotronic system to help handle high-speed stability, and low-speed maneuverability.
