Nissan is recalling over 1,000 2014 Nissan Rogue crossovers due to an issue with the steering assembly, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

Approximately 1,644 vehicles are affected by the recall.

The steering assembly may loosen in the 2014 Rogue vehicles, according to the NHTSA.

Nissan has issued a stop-sale order to dealers until the vehicles can be repaired.

"In the affected vehicles, an incorrect bolt may have been used to connect the intermediate shaft to the upper steering assembly," said NHTSA regarding the issue.

No other Nissan or Infiniti models are affected, the company said to federal safety regulators.

The issue was discovered when a rattle was heard during an internal audit of the 2014 Rogue.

"The incorrect bolts could loosen and fall out, resulting in a loss of vehicle control and increasing the risk of a crash."

As of February, Nissan said that it had not received any reports of steering-column issues in the affected vehicles.

Affected vehicles were manufactured from January 10, 2014 through January 17, 2014, according to the automaker.

Nissan dealers are being instructed to inspect the steering-column assembly. If an incorrect bolt is discovered, the dealer will remove and reassemble the steering-column assembly with the correct bolt.

All repairs, if necessary, will be completed free of charge.

The recall is expected to begin sometime in June.
