DeltaWing's new car concept won't be going into production any time soon, but the super sleek design could potentially become the ultra-efficient vehicle of the future.

The design from DeltaWing Technologies envisions the company's lightweight race car as a street vehicle, hinting at ultimate fuel efficiency with its aerodynamic body, the New York Daily News reported.

The DeltaWing concept has a narrow front-end and a rear engine to minimize resistance.

"Many of the aerodynamic, lightweight and handling benefits of the race car can translate to the street," said Don Panoz, chairman of DeltaWing Technologies Inc., as quoted by the Daily News.

"We are competing at the highest levels of road racing with half the weight, half the horsepower and nearly half of the fuel consumption. We believe we can deliver similar results on the street without compromising safety, comfort and performance. We have a formula that's highly efficient and still fun to drive."

The model won't hit showrooms any time soon, but DeltaWing has been in talks with manufacturers. The plan is to put the concept into production before fuel economy regulations become stricter in 2025.

"Design, technology, efficient use of lightweight materials, lower horsepower and lower fuel consumption is a winning formula," Panoz said.

"I believe this is the future of motorsports, and key to meeting the next decade's fuel economy and emissions standards."

DeltaWing has outlined the vehicle's planned specifications: zero to 60 mph in six seconds, a maximum speed of 130 mph and fuel economy of 70 miles per gallon. The concept has a four-cylinder engine producing between 85 and 100 horsepower.
