Adding to General Motors' troubles, Suzuki has issued a recall for 184,244 small cars built by GM for the U.S. market due to potential overheating that can cause the steering columns to catch on fire.

The recall comprises Suzuki Forenza cars from the model years 2004-08 as well as Reno models from 2005-08, USA TODAY reported. The cars were built from Sept. 1, 2003, through July 30, 2008.

Some of the same models were recalled nearly two years ago due to a shoddy electrical connection that could result in failing headlights.

The latest problem is found in faulty headlamp switches or daytime running light modules, which can overheat in the cars before melting and catching fire on the left side of the steering column.

The headlight switch used in the recall vehicles was made by Korean supplier Woochang, while the problematic running-light modules came from Hamsar Diversco of Ontario, Canada.

The same overheating issue was reported in a GM recall earlier this week for 218,000 South Korean-made Chevrolet Aveo and Optra subcompacts in the U.S. and a total of 284,000 worldwide, Reuters reported.

In its recall, the American automaker said it did not yet have a solution to the problem. GM previously stated that fires had been reported in connection with the issue but no injuries or fatalities, according to Reuters.
