2015 Mazda MX-5 Miata 25th Anniversary Edition Sells Out

Car enthusiasts jumped at the chance to buy a limited-edition version of the 2015 Mazda MX-5 Miata, the company announcing Tuesday that all 100 models of the 25th Anniversary Edition sold out within 10 minutes.

Reserved online through an exclusive pre-order, the MX-5 Miata 25th Anniversary Edition cars are expected at dealerships in the later summer, Edmunds.com reported. The limited-edition vehicle starts at $33,000 with a $795 shipping charge for models equipped with a six-speed manual transmission, while versions with an automatic transmission start at $33,450 with destination fees.

Scheduled to arrive at dealerships with the rest of the 2015 MX-5 Miata lineup, the anniversary models come with a power-retractable hardtop.

The 25th Anniversary Edition also features Soul Red Metallic exterior paint with Brilliant Black trim as well as details including 17-inch aluminum alloy wheels in Dark Gunmetal and 25th Anniversary Edition badging, according to Edmunds. Inside, the cabin has leather seats in Almond and door trim.

The car fans who snapped up the 100 25th Anniversary Edition models will also receive custom Tourneau watches, Edmunds earlier reported.

The swift sellout wasn't a total surprise to Mazda.

"The consumer anticipation and fervor with which the limited-edition model was sold was not entirely unexpected but a pleasant surprise nonetheless," the company said in a statement quoted by Edmunds.

The new 2015 Mazda MX-5 Miata in standard trim starts at $24,765, including a $795 destination charge.
