Microsoft has announced that its Microsoft for iPad suite, which includes Word, Excel, and PowerPoint apps, has reached 27 million downloads in just 46 days after its debut in March, according to Business Insider.
The news was announced at the TechEd Conference on May 12.
The highly-anticipated group of apps soared to the top of Apple's iOS App Store charts just one day after debuting.
Word is currently the fourth most-downloaded free iPad app, while Excel and PowerPoint are the 22nd and 26th most downloaded free iPad apps, respectively, as of press time.
Despite being free to download, Microsoft requires its users to purchase an in-app subscription to unlock full software capabilities.
Office users can access documents for free, but in order to make edits, customers have to obtain an Office 365 subscription.
Office 365 subscriptions cost $99 per year, or $9.99 per month.
In April, the company said it had 4.4 million paid users of the personal versions of Office for iPad.
Apple takes a 30 percent cut of all subscription sign-ups, as part of company policy for all in-app purchases, according to AppleInsider.com.
Microsoft unveiled Microsoft Office for iPad at the end of March after years of speculation. Rumors has circulated about Microsoft Office becoming available for iPad devices ever since the device was first introduced in 2010.
