Chrysler Recall: 4,000 2013-'14 Fiat 500e Vehicles Called Back

Chrysler is recalling over 4,000 2013-'14 Fiat 500e electric vehicles in order to replace the power inverter module to avoid coolant seepage that could cause power loss while the vehicle is moving.

Approximately 4,141 Fiat 500e vehicles are affected by the recall, according to Chrysler.

"A PIM (power inverter module) alters electric current to accommodate battery-powered propulsion," said Chrysler in a statement on its website.

Chrysler said it is has been made aware of five incidents linked to the issue, but no fires.

The automaker said it is unaware if any crashes or injures have occurred as a result of the issue.

Affected vehicles were manufactured from September 24, 2012 through April 4, 2014.

"A routine warranty data review prompted an investigation, during which Chrysler Group engineers discovered a PIM defect that may, over time, seep coolant onto electrical components, causing a short-circuit leading to power loss," said Chrysler in a statement.

Fiat dealers are being instructed to replace the power inverter module.

All repairs will be made free of charge.

A recall date has not been set by the automaker yet.

Fiat 500e owners will be contacted directly "and advised when they may schedule service," according to Chrysler.

Owners with more questions can contact Fiat at 1-888-242-6342.
