Redesigned Chrysler Ram 1500 Pickup Truck Set For 2019

A full redesign of Chrysler's Ram 1500 pickup truck has been tentatively slated for sometime in 2019, according to Edmunds, citing U.S. supplier sources.

The sources said interested customers can expect the next-generation to reach showrooms as a 2020 model.

Fiat Chrysler Automobiles said it plans to expand the number of its vehicles offered by its Ram truck brand, but failed to provide specific details.

The announcement was made during a presentation this week to analysts at its U.S. headquarters.

A "minor update" to the Ram 1500 is coming in 2015, followed by a "major update," but not a full redesign, in 2017.

Similar updates have been planned by the automaker for its heavy-duty Ram 2500/3500 pickup truck in calendar 2016 and 2018, respectively.

Ram, which used to be Dodge trucks, is a growing brand, thanks mainly to its strength of full-size pickups.

Fiat Chrysler Automobiles is aiming to increase Ram sales by a third in 2018, which would mean a bump from 463,000 in 2013 to 620,000 in 2018.

The company expects part of the growth will come from its vans. Ram offers the ProMaster commercial range, based on Fiat's European vans, in a number of key locations.

The Ram 1500 competes with a number of similar vehicles like the Ford F-Series, Chevrolet Silverado and the Nissan Titan.
