Ford Recall: F-Series Trucks Called Back for Transmission Calibration Issue

Ford is recalling its 2015 Ford F-250, F-350, F-450 and F-550 Super Duty trucks to repair a transmission calibration issue, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

Trucks affected by the recall are equipped with the 6.2-liter gasoline or 6.7-liter diesel engines and 6R140 transmissions.

"An error with the transmission control software may be such that while shifting from 'Park' to 'Drive' the vehicle may display 'Drive' but possibly engage 'Reverse' for 1.5 seconds before engaging 'Drive,'" said NHTSA in its summary of the issue.

Ford said to federal safety regulators that it is not currently aware of any consumer reports related to the issue.

The calibration problem was discovered internally, according to the NHTSA.

Approximately 3,973 vehicles are affected by the recall.

Ford was not aware of any reports of accidents or injuries attributed to the problem as of April 4, 2014.

Ford dealers are being instructed to update the transmission software if necessary. If an update is needed, repairs will be made free of charge.

"If the vehicle is in 'Reverse' while the gear selection shows 'Drive,' unexpected movement could occur, increasing the risk of a crash," said the NHTSA.

The recall is expected to begin in early May.

Affected vehicles were manufactured from September 13, 2013 through March 28, 2014.
