Luxury automaker Aston Martin has a new generation of models in the works that should hit showrooms in early 2016.

The British luxury sports car manufacturer has been developing a new platform architecture that will likely replace the Aston Martin DB9, Edmunds.com reported.

Working through the engineering partnership recently set up with Daimler, Aston Martin will get some help from Mercedes-Benz, using modified versions of the division's AMG engines.

Aston is developing the new vehicle platform in-house in the U.K., working to produce a stronger, lighter structure that could feature carbon fiber.

"We are engineering a completely new architecture and technologies to ensure that our next generation of sports cars is at the forefront of design, performance and technology," Hanno Kirner, Aston Martin CFO, said in a statement quoted by Edmunds. "The strategic partnership with Daimler AG will bring with it cutting edge electrical and electronic expertise, and the shared development of world-class bespoke V8 powertrains."

The V8 engines will be manufactured in Germany and then sent to Aston for modifications.

According to Edmunds, the partnership with Daimler and the new platform should give Aston the boost it needs.

"Developing a new core building block will be a challenge given its limited financial resources, but the tie-up with Daimler will undoubtedly help it to remain competitive in terms of engine development and electronics," Edmunds said of the British automaker.

The Aston Martin DB9, which will likely be replaced by the 2016 update, starts at $190,325 and offers 510 horsepower produced by a 5.9-liter 12-cylinder engine paired with a six-speed automatic transmission.
