Tesla Motors celebrated a big milestone this week after announcing the opening of its 100th Supercharger station, and 86th in North America.

The 100th Supercharger station can be found in Hamilton, New Jersey, according to a company blog post.

The electric-vehicle maker has set up Supercharger stations around the world so that its customers can recharge their vehicles for free.

The stations also eliminate worries that Tesla owners will be stranded if their vehicle breaks down during long-distance traveling.

Stations cannot be used by owners of other EVs however, as they are only compatible with Tesla vehicles.

Model S owners can access 86 Supercharger stations across North America, and 14 in Europe.

"We're rolling out new Superchargers as fast as we can, which for Model S owners means that gas stops are fast becoming a fading memory," the company said in a blog post this week announcing the new station.

By the end of 2014, Tesla hopes to have "98 percent of the U.S. population covered," according to the EV maker.
