Nissan has issued a recall for more than 3,000 Pathfinder crossovers due to leaking transmission fluid problems.

The recall for around 3,065 Nissan Pathfinder vehicles from the 2013 model year will begin next month, Edmunds.com reported. Models with a continuously variable transmission are included, and the recall affects cars built from April 18, 2012 through Oct. 3, 2012.

No injuries or crashes have been reported in connection with the recall, Nissan North America spokesman Steve Yaeger told Edmunds.

"In the affected vehicles, the internal oil cooler hose may detach from the cooler due to inadequate clamping force, allowing transmission fluid to leak," the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said in its summary of the problem, as reported by Edmunds.

"The loss of transmission fluid could cause the transmission to function improperly and the vehicle to stop accelerating, increasing the risk of a crash."

According to Nissan, crossovers built after Oct. 3, 2012 are not affected by the transmission issue since the carmaker added improvements to the manufacturing process to fix the issue.

Infiniti JX vehicles are also unaffected by the recall since they have a different continuously variable transmission that operates on a lower pressure.

For the May recall, Nissan dealers will equip the Pathfinders with an oil hose repair kit. Meantime, concerned owners can contact Nissan at 1-800-647-7261.

The NHTSA opened an investigation into both the Pathfinder and the Infiniti JX back in the fall after complaints from owners that the vehicles can suddenly lose power from the transmission due to the loss of the transmission fluid, according to Reuters.
