Cats Promote Mercedes CLA Class in New Ad

Mercedes-Benz has decided to jump on the Internet cat bandwagon to help promote the new CLA Class.

The furry animal beloved by the meme community is featured in a new TV spot alongside the "swoopy, feline form" of the CLA, Mercedes-Benz said in a press release posted on Jalopnik.

"The aerodynamic CLA is a car with cat-titude and the ad will be shown for the first time a whisker before 7:30 pm, during ITV's Britain's Got Talent this Saturday," said the press release.

In the commercial, which took two days to film with the cats, a tabby cat whose name is William slides over the sleek exterior of a glossy new CLA model.

William has appeared onscreen for about a decade and was specially trained to appear in the ad, according to the automaker. How did he manage to slide gracefully over the car?

"Employing camera trickery and old fashioned props, William was able to slide on a piece of gently moved fabric across the windscreen under the careful supervision of his trainer," Mercedes-Benz said in the press release.

The CLA-Class lineup starts at $29,900 and includes the CLA250 Coupe and CLA45 AMG Coupe.

The luxury sedan features standard 17-inch alloy wheels, and the CLA250 runs on a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine generating 208 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque, according to Edmunds.com.
