This April 15, your taxes will be due as usual, a rare total lunar eclipse will turn the moon red and Google Glass will be available for a limited time.

A select supply of the eyewear device will be sold starting at 9 a.m. on April 15 as Google reaches out to everyday consumers, Yahoo Tech reported.

The somewhat controversial gadget has so far only been available to a limited group of developers called Glass Explorers, so Google is looking to expand its market and likely to improve the Glass image, which has become a bit tarnished.

"Our Explorers are moms, bakers, surgeons, rockers, and each new Explorer has brought a new perspective that is making Glass better," Google said in a blog post. "But every day we get requests from those of you who haven't found a way into the program yet, and we want your feedback too. So in typical Explorer Program fashion, we're trying something new."

In the special sale on April 15, anyone in the U.S. will be able to purchase Glass online for its usual $1,500 cost.

Google has been working to improve the Glass image and bring the device to a wider demographic. Last month, the Mountain View, Calif.-headquartered company announced a partnership with Luxottica, which produces eyewear brands such as Ray-Ban and Vogue-Eyewear.

The Glass device has received some bad press in the last few months after incidents like the San Francisco bar altercation reportedly sparked by the gadget. Google released a set of guidelines in February to encourage Glass wearers to use the device in appropriate settings.

Earlier this week, Google also announced a new program to support businesses whose employees are working with Glass.
