The 2014 Buick LaCrosse sedan has earned a five-star overall safety rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

GM confirmed that the LaCrosse received five stars in front and side impact crash tests and four stars in the rollover crash test.

Ratings apply to the all-wheel-drive and front-wheel-drive options of the 2014 LaCrosse, and for the LaCrosse eAssist model.

Standard features for the new vehicle includes electronic stability control, traction control, eight airbags, like rear-seat thorax airbags, and antilock brakes, according to the automaker.

Lane departure warning, side blind zone alert, and lane change alert are all available safety features for the 2014 LaCrosse.

Buyers can add a safety alert seat as well, which works by using seat vibrations in the direction of a potential crash threat.

GM confirmed the refreshed 2014 LaCrosse has yet to be rated by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety however.

The 2013 LaCrosse meanwhile is an IIHS Top Safety Pick, after receiving "Good" scores in every crash test conducted by the IIHS.

The LaCrosse competes with similar vehicles like the Lexus ES 350 and Volvo S60, along with many others.
