2015 Fiat 500 Lineup Features Optional Six-Speed Transmission

2015 Fiat 500 Abarth and Abarth Cabrio models sold in the U.S. will have optional six-speed automatic transmissions, Chrysler has announced.

Fiat believes the option will "broaden the customer base for the high-performance version of the Fiat 500," Edmunds.com reported.

The 2015 models, which will be showcased at the upcoming New York Auto Show, are expected to arrive at dealerships in July. Fiat has not yet disclosed pricing for the Abarth and Abarth Cabrio.

The cars have standard manual five-speed transmissions, while the optional six-speed model features an Aisin AW6F25. Both versions will be mated with the 1.4-liter MultiAir Turbo four-cylinder engine, according to Edmunds.

In sports mode, the automatic transmission "allows for an even more engaged driving experience with special features such as fuel-cut upshifts, rev-matching downshifts, brake-assist downshifts, corner gear hold and fast-off gear hold, as well as a more aggressive pedal map," Chrysler said.

The 2015 Fiat 500 lineup will also be updated with a redesigned interior and a new electronic display in the instrument cluster.

The new display will be featured in most models and "allows drivers to easily monitor data like speed, fuel level, Eco index and trip information," Chrysler said. It will be included in the standard trim for the 2015 Fiat 500 Sport, Lounge, Turbo and Abarth models, and featured as an option for the Pop, Edmunds reported.

The new models also have an updated center console with a redesigned cup holder, an extra USB port and Bluetooth streaming audio as well as the usual Bluetooth connectivity.
