Amazon is doing its best to make sure you never need to leave your house again.
The same week that it debuted the Fire TV set-top box, the company has launched a new feature called Amazon Dash that lets consumers in some areas get groceries and household goods delivered to their homes, Reuters reported.
Users who are signed up for the AmazonFresh service can use the hand-held Dash device to scan barcodes of the items they need or just speak into the microphone to have the goods added to their order.
The new Dash service is by invitation only, and AmazonFresh is so far only available in Southern California, San Francisco and Seattle. Interested customers can sign up for an invite online, and the actual device is free if they are asked to join the service.
"Once we learn more from our customers about their experience we will consider expanding the trial," an Amazon spokeswoman told The Wall Street Journal's Digits blog.
The black and white, 6-inch Dash wand connects to the user's home Wi-Fi network, so consumers can see the lists on computers or mobile devices to confirm the purchase and schedule delivery, according to the website. Dash can be used to order more than 500,000 items, and most items should come by the next day.
While Amazon Dash seems to be in beta stages, the Fresh online grocery could be coming to more areas soon. The company is looking to launch AmazonFresh in around 20 urban areas this year, even expanding to other countries, Reuters reported.
