Hyundai Motors Hopes to Sell 228,000 New Sonatas in 2014

Hyundai is hoping to sell around 228,000 new Sonata vehicles globally in 2014, in its attempt to regain market share and reverse an overall profit decline.

The world's fifth-biggest automaker is looking to sell 63,000 redesigned Sonatas in Korea and around 165,000 overseas before the end of the year, according to a company statement, released this week.

In 2015, the South Korean company is hoping global sales of Sonata sedans reach around 338,000.

Specifically, the automaker wants to sell 89,000 Sonatas in Korea and 249,000 in other locations, according to Reuters.

Hyundai launched the sedan in South Korea on Monday, marking the vehicle's first makeover in almost five years.

Hyundai will debut the mid-sized sedan at the New York Auto Show next month, according to the press statement.

Hyundai said last week that it overstated the gas mileage of its Sonata sedan in publicity material for the media.

Mileage for the upcoming Sonata was 28.4 miles per gallon instead of the 29.6 mpg Hyundai said back on March 4.

Hyundai started receiving pre-orders for the Sonata earlier this month in the U.S.
