Chrysler has confirmed that it is suspending production of its 2014 SRT Viper for two months due to slow sales.

Approximately 91 workers will be laid off at the automaker's Conner Avenue Assembly Plant in Detroit.

Chrysler sold 91 SRT Vipers through February, according to Chrysler's most recent sales report.

"Chrysler Group confirms that its Conner Avenue Assembly Plant will be down, beginning the week of April 14," said Jodi Tinson, a Chrysler spokeswoman, according to Edmunds. "Production will resume the week of June 23. Ninety-one UAW-represented employees will be laid off during this time."

Two versions of the performance vehicle, the SRT Viper and SRT Viper GTS, are built at the Detroit assembly plant.

The Conner Avenue Assembly Plant has been the Viper's home since 1995.

Chrysler has a 412-day supply, or 756 unsold SRT Vipers, as of March 1, according to Edmunds.

The SRT Viper competes for sales with the popular 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray.

General Motors most recent sales report showed the automaker sold 4,699 Corvette Stingrays through February.

In 2013, Chrysler debuted a new marketing campaign for the SRT Viper, featuring consumer test-drives of the coupe at Viper dealerships. It is expected to continue in select locations around the U.S. as the winter weather begins to calm down.
