Aether Cone Knows What Music You Want To Hear

A San Francisco startup has developed a smart music player that learns your music tastes to play what you want to hear.

With a simple black and copper design that recalls an antique phonograph, Cone is a "thinking music player" that works with Apple products to tailor its selections to your tastes, PCMag reported.

Aether Things has created a simple yet innovative device that works by remembering which songs you liked. Just twist the dial to hear music, turning it again when you don't like the song. Cone is designed to play songs like the ones you enjoyed, similar to the way Pandora selects music based on "likes."

The device plays music from streaming services, Internet radio stations and podcasts, working with Apple iOS and Mac gadgets, according to PCMag. Cone weighs just 2.9 pounds and measures 6.3 inches high, 6.3 inches wide and 6 inches long. With a built-in lithium battery, Cone offers eight hours of continuous playback.

Aether set out to create something well-designed and easy to use, said Duncan Lamb, co-founder and chief product officer.

"The world is filled with new devices that do amazing things, yet the more you own, the harder you have to work to connect, manage, and troubleshoot them," Lamb said in a statement. "At Aether, we decided to make products and experiences that work harder so you don't have to. Our ultimate goal is simple--to make everyday life nicer through beautifully thought-out products."

Aether hasn't yet said which streaming services will work with Cone, but the company is "working hard" to make sure popular content services are compatible with the device.

Cone is coming in the spring or summer for $399 and will be available in black and copper or white and silver. The device can be reserved for purchase on the Aether website.
