Nissan, Chrysler Sales Jump in Spite of Wintry Weather

In a lagging month for auto sales, Nissan Group posted a 15.8 percent increase year-over-year as its Rogue, Altima and Juke titles performed well.

The Nissan division reported 105,631 deliveries, an increase of 16.7 percent compared with the previous year and a February record, Nissan said in a press release.

The brand's new 2014 Rogue marked its third full month of sales, increasing a record 72.6 percent for 17,197 deliveries in the month.

Chrysler saw a sales increase of 11 percent, but General Motors, Ford and Toyota blamed the especially rough winter for their decline in deliveries, Automotive News reported.

Of the General Motors brands, only Buick saw a gain, reporting a 19 percent sales jump. Chevrolet and Cadillac sales each fell 3 percent, while GMC was down 1 percent.

Toyota reported a 4 percent drop, marking the third month in a row for declining sales. Ford's sales fell 6 percent, but deliveries for the Lincoln brand rose 36 percent.

"Sales surged in the final week, providing us momentum after a slow start to the month," John Felice, vice president of U.S. marketing, sales and service for Ford, said in a statement.

According to statements from the three with slow sales, deliveries increased toward the end of the month when the weather improved.

"Weather continued to impact the industry in February, but GM sales started to thaw during the Winter Olympic Games as our brand and marketing messages took hold," Kurt McNeil, U.S. vice president of GM's sales operations, said in a statement, as reported by Automotive News.

Chrysler has now had a running streak of increasing sales for 47 months; in February, deliveries for the Jeep and Ram brands rose 47 percent and 28 percent, respectively.
