2013 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport Recalled Over Airbag Problem

Mitsubishi Motors has confirmed it's recalling its 2013 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport vehicles equipped with leather seats to fix a wiring issue that could cause an airbag not to deploy in the event of an accident.

Approximately 733 vehicles are involved in the recall, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

Affected models were made between July 20, 2012 and May 29, 2013.

Mitsubishi has told its U.S. dealers not to deliver the 2013 Outlander Sport until all models have been repaired or examined.

"In the affected vehicles, the driver side seat-mounted airbag wiring may have been improperly routed during the leather seat cover installation process," said NHTSA. "If the wiring is routed incorrectly, using the seat height adjustment may damage the wiring, resulting in illumination of the airbag warning light.

Mitsubishi is not aware of any injuries or accidents related to the issue.

The automaker is instructing all dealers to inspect the wiring of the driver side seat-mounted airbag and re-route the wiring.

The seat-mounted airbag will be replaced if necessary, free of charge.

"Subsequently, in the event of a crash necessitating airbag deployment, the driver side seat-mounted airbag may not deploy, increasing the risk of injury," said the NHTSA.
