Google has published some rather obvious guidelines for properly using its Google Glass device, which has already been the subject of controversy.

The rules for users of the $1,500 device were published in a Glass Explorers blog post, ValleyWag reported.

Google gathered tips from Glass users to create the guidelines, which seem to be simple reminders to act like a normal person while wearing the device.

"Standing alone in the corner of a room staring at people while recording them through Glass is not going to win you any friends," the Explorers post warned.

Other tips include not using Glass during high-impact sports or while on a romantic date. Users should also remember not to "be creepy or rude (aka, a 'Glasshole')."

The most useful piece of information in the post is probably how to protect your privacy and what to do if the device is stolen.

"Glass screen lock works like your smartphone's screen lock: it passcode-protects your device to help prevent others from using it," Google said.

"If you ever lose your device or have it stolen by a budding online resale entrepreneur, you can turn off Glassware and perform a remote wipe (e.g. factory reset) of the device, removing all your information from the device. All you need to do is go to your MyGlass page on your browser, or the MyGlass App on your phone."

Google may be aiming to keep its bases covered with the simple advice especially after Glass users have made it into the news.

In November, a man was asked to leave a Seattle restaurant after he refused to take off his Glass device, reportedly making the other diners feel uncomfortable. A California driver was cited for wearing the gadget behind the wheel in late October, but the ticket has since been dismissed.
