Apple will likely be rolling out a new Apple TV device sometime this year, according to reports.
The new version of the Internet-connected box that streams TV services should be unveiled in the next few months, Yahoo Tech reported via Bloomberg and 9to5Mac.
The Apple TV device plugs into a television set and streams content from YouTube, Netflix and other services. It retails for around $100.
The tech giant has been negotiating with Time Warner Cable and other companies to garner video content for the new Apple TV, according to the Bloomberg report.
The device should launch in April and be available for purchase in time for Christmas, sources familiar with the matter told Bloomberg.
9to5Mac described a more vague timeline with the device appearing sometime in the first half of the year.
The plans are tentative and could change based on how quickly Apple can secure agreements with programming and distribution partners.
The new Apple TV will reportedly have a faster processor than the 2013 version and a revamped interface, a source, who asked not to be named, told Bloomberg.
The upgraded interface should make navigation between TV shows, movies and other content easier for consumers. If the Time Warner Cable deal goes through, it will be the first such partnership with a cable or satellite company.
Spokespersons for both Apple and Time Warner Cable declined to comment to Bloomberg.
The timing seems right for a new Apple TV since the device hasn't been updated in almost a year, Yahoo Tech pointed out.
"Apple has traditionally updated its hardware products, like the iPhone and the iPad, on a yearly cycle; it has been about a year since the last new Apple TV," Yahoo Tech said. "In some sense, Apple is overdue to release a new one."
The upgraded Apple TV could be the first in the lineup of new products promised by CEO Tim Cook. A smartwatch is also in the works as the company seeks to revive growth after recent slowing profit and sales, Bloomberg reported.
