Margot Robbie Cast As Jane in New 'Tarzan' Film from Warner Bros.

New Hollywood it girl Margot Robbie has been cast to play Jane to Alexander Skarsgård's Tarzan in the upcoming film from Warner Bros.

The updated Tarzan franchise will also feature Samuel L. Jackson and Christoph Waltz, who recently appeared onscreen together in "Django Unchained," Yahoo Movies reported.

The new film will be directed by David Yates, who is known for his work on the last four "Harry Potter" movies.

Warner Bros. is planning a July 1, 2016 release date for the new Tarzan movie, which means the film set in the jungle will take on audiences soon after the highly anticipated "Batman vs. Superman" film hits theaters in May.

Robbie has risen quickly after starring in Martin Scorsese's "The Wolf of Wall Street."

The Australian-born 23-year-old actress is currently filming sci-fi movie "Z for Zachariah" opposite Chris Pine, and she may join Will Smith in the upcoming con artist thriller "Focus."

According to Variety, the Skarsgård casting was Yates' choice. The 37-year-old actor, who rose to fame on HBO's "True Blood," will next be seen in "The Giver" playing Jonas' father.

The latest Tarzan film will center on John Clayton III, or Tarzan, years after he's become part of society again, Variety reported. At Queen Victoria's request, Tarzan will investigate the Congo along with an ex-mercenary, and the pair will fight a warlord who controls a huge diamond mine.

"No word yet on any remix of the character of Jane, though we imagine Robbie will be playing a much tougher and more independent variation on the classic damsel in distress," Yahoo Movies noted. "Which is great, as long as there's at least one scene where Tarzan takes hold around her waist with one hand and grabs a swinging vine with another and let's out his trademark battle cry."
