Toyota Recall: Tacoma Pickup, RAV4 Among 260,000 Affected Models

Toyota is recalling its 2012-'13 Toyota Tacoma pickup, 2012-'13 Lexus RX 350 crossover, and 2012 Toyota RAV4 crossover in the U.S., according to the automaker.

Approximately 260,000 vehicles are affected by the recall.

The recalls were decided on in order to fix a software issue that could cause the vehicle's stability, antilock brakes and traction control functions to shut off, increasing the chance of an accident.

Despite the issue, Toyota claims standard braking operation in affected models "remains fully functional," according to a company statement released on the automaker's website.

The automaker is instructing all Toyota and Lexus dealers to update the software in the affected models, free of charge.

Owners will receive letters in the mail when the software updates become available. They will then be asked to bring their vehicles in to be worked on.

The issue has yet to cause an accident or injury, according to the automaker.

RAV4 owners can reach Lexus at 1-800-255-3987 and Toyota at 1-800-331-4331.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has yet to comment on the news. The NHTSA overseers all U.S. vehicle recalls.
