Chrysler Confirms EPA Estimates for 2014 Ram 1500 EcoDiesel

Chrysler has confirmed that its 2014 Ram 1500 EcoDiesel delivers 20 mpg in city driving and 28 mpg on the highway.

The Ram 1500 EcoDiesel is equipped with a 3.0-liter EcoDiesel V6 engine mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission.

The base 2014 Ram 1500 is equipped with a 5.7-liter V8 engine and six-speed automatic transmission, and delivers 14 mpg in city driving and 20 mpg on the highway, according to the EPA.

"The new Ram 1500 EcoDiesel is truly in a class of its own with 28 MPG and the ability to tow 9,200 pounds," said Reid Bigland President and CEO, Ram Truck Brand, according to a company press release. "To put the Ram 1500 EcoDiesel in context, it gets 6 mpg better fuel economy than the best F150 EcoBoost. Overall the Ram 1500 EcoDiesel has outstanding pick-up truck capability with compact car-like fuel economy."

Chrysler also confirmed that Ram dealerships around the U.S. will offer the diesel version of the Ram 1500.

Cappa said the EcoDiesel model won't be available in the Sport model because it comes standard with a Hemi V8 engine. The EcoDiesel model also won't be available in the two-door short-bed option.

"We are immensely gratified by achieving these milestones," said Bob Lee, Chrysler Group's Head of Engine, Powertrain and Electrified Propulsion Systems Engineering, according to the press release. "Not only do they confirm our position as an industry leader in powertrain development and truck design, they promise tremendous benefits for our customers."

Chrysler has started building the EcoDiesel model and they could be in showrooms towards the end of February, but the automaker can't promise anything yet.

Chrysler said the 2014 Ram 1500 will go on sale by March 2014.
