Phillip Seymour Hoffman Autopsy to be Conducted in NYC Today

The autopsy for Phillip Seymour Hoffman, who was found dead on Feb. 2, will be conducted by the New York Medical examiner's office today, Feb. 3, according to CNN.

The Oscar-winning actor was found on the bathroom floor with a syringe in his left arm and bags supposedly containing heroin were discovered inside his Manhattan apartment.

Hoffman, 46, was last seen in public on Feb. 1, at around 8:00 p.m., according to the Associated Press.

"We are devastated by the loss of our beloved Phil and appreciate the outpouring of love and support we have received from everyone," Hoffman's family said in a statement, according to CNN. "This is a tragic and sudden loss and we ask that you respect our privacy during this time of grieving."

Hoffman was expected to pick up his children on Sunday, but failed to show up, according to a law enforcement official.

Playwright David Katz and one other person went to Hoffman's apartment and found him dead in his bathroom. A needle was still in Hoffman's arm when they discovered his body, along with eight empty glassine-type bags that usually contain heroin, according to CNN.

The bags were supposedly labeled with "Ace of Hearts," and "Aces of Spades," street names for heroin, according to the law enforcement official.

Witnesses confirmed seeing a body bag removed from Hoffman's apartment building on Feb. 2, likely containing Hoffman's body.

Hoffman won an Academy Award for his portrayal of Truman Capote in the 2005 film "Capote." He was also nominted for roles in films like "Charlie Wilson's War," "The Master," and "Doubt."

He is survived by three children and his longtime partner, Mimi O'Donnell.
