Saleen, Tesla Team Up for Specialty Model S Sports Car

Specialty vehicle manufacturer Saleen has announced that the first-ever Saleen Tesla Model S sports car is in early design stages.

"I fully intend to produce one of the most compelling Teslas to ever hit the roadway," CEO Steve Saleen said in a press release.

Renderings should be released soon for the new design, which will also be the first Saleen electric vehicle. Both companies are devoted to quality models that steer away from fossil fuels, Saleen said.

"Tesla's values are not a departure from our core values of elite power, style, and performance. I have admired their craftsmanship," Saleen said in the press release.

"And now with our upcoming entry into the electric car market with a revolutionary design all our own, we share a desire to also produce vehicles that are not dependent on fossil fuels and which accomplish this fuel independence with a tremendous assemblage of grace and technology."

Saleen's engineers are working to prepare a specifications sheet with more details on the innovative features of the forthcoming Saleen Tesla Model S.

Headquartered in Corona, Calif., Saleen produces high performance vehicles, technical performance parts, lifestyle accessories and apparel.

Tesla Motors experienced rapid growth last year, selling 20,000 cars while share prices quadrupled, according to The Wall Street Journal's MarketWatch

The Silicon Valley startup could become the fourth American car company, the West Coast's answer to Detroit, MarketWatch noted.

At least one Tesla Model S electric car is registered in every state, according to Jalopnik.

In just a year and a half, Tesla's plug-in has entered all 50 states, a feat that took the Nissan Leaf 23 months to accomplish. Mississippi was the last state to jump on board, a driver recently registering a Telsa Model S in Jackson.
