Thai police have said that a top executive at Indian automaker Tata Motors likely committed suicide by jumping from a luxury hotel in Bangkok, according to the Associated Press.
Managing Director Karl Slym, 51, died on Jan. 26 in Thailand where he was set to attend a board meeting.
Major Gneral Pornchai Sutheerakhun confirmed that Slym died after falling from his room, which was located on the 22nd floor of the hotel, according to AP.
Police Lt. Somyot Bunnakaew said investigators believe Slym committed suicide due to a suicide note left in his hotel room. The note mentioned "domestic" issues, and is still being analyzed to make sure it was in fact written by Slym.
Slym joined Tata Motors in Oct. 2012 after previously working at General Motors. He was "providing leadership to the company" during a difficult time, according to a statement released by Chairman Cyprus P. Mistry.
The Chairman described Slym as "a valued colleague who was providing strong leadership at a challenging time for the Indian auto industry," according to AP.
"In this hour of grief, our thoughts are with Karl's wife and family," said Mistry, according to AP.
Shares of Tata Motors dropped almost 5 percent in Mumbai after the news of Slym's death broke.
Tata Motors also owns Land Rover and Jaguar Brands.
