Hertz has redesigned its mobile app to streamline car rentals for customers, making the booking process easier, the company announced Tuesday.
The "fresh, modern" update lets renters access the app in airplane mode so they can reschedule rentals during travel, Hertz said in a press release.
Using customer feedback, Hertz added features to the app that include "persistent" log in, where customers can log in once and stay logged in; enhanced location search; a new look and feel; and easier access to future reservation information.
"We listen closely to the feedback customers provide us. They wanted a new and improved app and we delivered," Mark P. Frissora, Hertz chairman and CEO, said in the press release. "At Hertz we strive to make the rental experience as fast, easy and enjoyable as possible, and our new innovations and technologies, including the redesigned mobile app, are just the start of what's to come."
The new app promises to be faster with making reservations. Customers won't have to switch to the Hertz website to reserve a vehicle, and they won't have to log in again every time.
The update will keep features from the old app such as access to roadside assistance, special offers and frequent deals, said the press release.
The car rental company has grown in other ways over the last month. Hertz Global Holdings, which purchased Dollar Thrifty Automotive Group in July, saw "unusual and substantial activity" in the market for company shares, according to Bloomberg Businessweek.
The rental giant took on a "poison pill" earlier this month after executives suspected activists of trying to take over the company.
According to Businessweek, Hertz shares rose as much as 11.5 percent on Dec. 31. The jump occurred one day after the company implemented a one-year plan for shareholder rights.
