General Motors is recalling its Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra pickups over a potential problem that could cause an engine fire.

Over 300,000 2014 trucks are involved in the recall, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

GM said the recall involves vehicles equipped with 4.3-liter and 5.3-liter engines.

"The overheated exhaust components may melt nearby plastic parts and may result in an engine fire," said the NHTSA.

Dealers will be notified to reprogram the engine control module, free of charge.

The recall is scheduled to begin on Jan. 16, 2014.

When the vehicle is idling in cold temperatures, the exhaust components can overheat, according the NHTSA.
