Equus Debuts 'Dream' Muscle Car Bass770 at Detroit Auto Show

Equus Automotive, a new car company based in Rochester, Mich., has launched an American dream car six years in the making.

Presented at the 2014 Detroit Auto Show, the Equus Bass770 is a 640-horsepower, fastback muscle car that combines 1960s and 1970s nostalgia with modern innovation, according to Yahoo! Autos.

"It's perhaps the most beautiful, evocative muscle car in decades," describes Yahoo's Alex Lloyd, who attended the Detroit Auto Show and saw three Bass770 models there.

In red, white and blue, the three Bass770 cars at the show let the previously unknown car company back up its claims.

Equus built the Bass770 with a made-from-scratch frame of aluminum lined with carbon fiber and fitted it with  a 6.2-liter supercharged V-8 engine featuring 640 horsepower and 605 pound-feet of torque, Yahoo reported.

The car, which boasts a luxurious leather interior, can reach 60 mph in 3.4 seconds and has a top speed of 200 mph. It has rear-wheel drive and a six-speed, dual clutch manual transmission.

The new model was "born of an abiding passion for genuine 1960's and 1970's era muscle cars," the company said on the website. "The rare seductive power of those legendary beauties, brought on by their unique fastback signature, enraptures and enthralls to this day."

The company has reportedly pre-sold 20 of the $250,000 cars to auto fans in China and the Far East, but it hasn't yet started production.

After licensing is finalized in the next two weeks, Equus plans to make its snazzy muscle car available to buyers in the United States. The company's ambitious aim is to sell 100 Bass770s each year.
