Detroit Auto Show 2014: GMC Debuts 2015 Canyon

General Motors revealed its new GMC Canyon at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit this weekend, and confirmed that the vehicle will be available in showrooms this fall.

Two aluminum-block engines will be available the first year the new truck is available: a 193-horsepower, 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine and a 3.6-liter V6 with an estimated 302 horsepower. A diesel option will also be made available sometime in 2015.

Two-or four-wheel drive, six-speed automatic transmissions are available according to the Associated Press.

"They are looking for something that is easier to live with, to park and maybe at a lower purchase price," said Roger McCormack, director of Buick/GMC marketing for GM, in a statement, according to The Los Angeles Times.

The vehicle can tow up to 6,700 pounds.

Outside the vehicle, GM designed a new aluminum hood to make the vehicle lighter. Rounded fenders, step built rear bumpers for climbing into the bed of the truck, and new door panels have all been confirmed for the new vehicle.

Touch-screen and USB ports have been installed in the new vehicle, according to AP.

Safety features include a standard rear-vision camera, and six standard air bags.

"Young truck buyers will be jazzed by the new GM offerings, said Karl Brauer, an analyst with car information company Kelley Blue Book, according to The Los Angeles Times. "The Tacoma and Frontier are neither impressive nor modern."

Three trim levels will be made available: a base option, SLE, and SLT.

GM has not revealed how much the vehicle will be made available for, but its expected to be released with a base price of around $19,000 to $30,000.
